A Little Style... Spring Colors

I just got this email from Shop Style.  If you haven't tried it, it's a fun website that helps your shop.  You can search by price range, color, brand, it's pretty handy.  Especially when you want to compare prices or find knock-offs.

But this is all about what colors are big for Spring!  It's so fun and colorful, I just had to share.  Start saving your pennies girls!

A Little Crafty... Turn Regular Jeans into Skinny Jeans

I found this on pinterest the other day.  If you are like me, you have a pile full of jeans.  Some of them I wear, most of them I don't.  Here is one way to get more use out of those oldies, but goodies.  Via Lucky Design.

Before

After

I haven't tried this yet, but I plan to.

A Little Style... Happy Holidays

I love to dress up for the Holidays!
Cardigan: Oh Sweet Sadie Boutique
Top: a Shade shirt that I cut and added a lace trim to
Necklace: Nordstrom
Skirt: it used to be a dress that I got at a cute little boutique years ago.  It was always too short so I dissected it and made it a skirt :)
Tights: H&M
Shoes: J. Crew
Belt: I took it off another dress... cause that's how I roll.

A Little Poise...How to Walk in Heels

Photo from caribmuslimah.com

It’s every woman's nightmare.

Uncle Ted has his camera rolling as you exit a reception center's doors. You pose for a few still shots with the wedding party, delicately placing your slippered feet on the granite steps. You bask in the senses of the big day: the smells, sights, and sounds.

Then, your body remembers that it has no idea how to walk in these brand-new heels. On steep steps. On slippery granite. In front of your closest friends.

Your shining moment and the resulting plunge to the steps below become Uncle Ted’s YouTube sensation, with plenty of “LOLs” and “ROFLs” to go around.

And it could have been avoided.

Listed below are some tips that, when practiced, will take you down the steps and through the entire day in heels with grace and confidence.

Wear the heels

Wear your heels ahead of time and often. Putting together centerpieces? Wear the heels. Doing a run-through on your make-up and hair? Wear the heels. Wear the heels at the tour of the reception center, or any time you run downstairs to grab the guest list. If the heels are slippery, buy an adhesive strip for the ball of the shoes…and then wear your heels!

Look with your eyes, not your head

Look with your eyes down the stairs, not with your head. Most women grab handfuls of their dress, hike and then point their nose down the steps to avoid falling. I affectionately refer to this as the “Neanderthal Bride” stance in my formal etiquette training courses.

Rather, stand up straight, lift the crown of your head, glancing downward only with your eyes. With the dress bustled, you are now prepared to descend the stairs and make your grand entrance.

Descending the stairs

When descending stairs, angle your body into your support. If this is the groom, turn your body towards him and place your arm on his for stability. If you are alone, angle your body towards the wall or into the handrail. Then step full foot onto the stairs.

These suggestions alone should keep you upright and your video off the Internet. Now you will be able to enjoy the big day and focus all your attention on your friends and family. And Uncle Ted? Just smile at the camera, confidently knowing how poised and beautiful you really are.

A Little Beauty...How to Do Your Eyebrows

When I turned twelve my mother handed me a pair of tweezers and said "Girl, do something about those brows." I have a strong brow line, I admit it.  (Maybe something closer to Burt and Ernie describes best what is above my eyes.)  And as such, I have sought the counsel of several great brow stylists.

Here are some tips from Master Esthetician Alisha Racker on getting them just right.

1.  It is always best to go with your natural shape when it comes to eyebrows. You can't look at a picture of a Victoria's Secret model and say, " I want THAT shape". You gotta work with what you have naturally and clean up the shape.

2. If you have never tweezed your brows or have messed them up at home, I would suggest growing them out, and going to a professional. You may want to see a Master Esthetician to shape initially, and then maintain by tweezing the re-growth at home.

3. It is best to tweeze in natural light( I always have a pair of tweezers in my car so I can tweeze using the rear view mirror).

4. Another rule of thumb is to start the shape of the inside of the brows where your nostrils end( you can hold a pencil from the end/side of your nostril up to get a clearer idea). The arch of your eyebrow should be where the outside of your pupil lies.

5. To trim, take a clean mascara wand and brush eyebrows up. Carefully trim long hairs with small scissors.

6. The most common mistake I see is over-plucked eyebrows. Less is not more when it comes to brows. Estheticians like having something to work with. Many people also forget that triming makes a HUGE difference to the overall look.

A Little Idea... Stylish Use for a Fine Toothed Comb

Sweater season is upon us. With below freezing temperatures almost every day there is nothing I love more than throwing on a comfy sweater to lounge around in. However, on the flip side, there is nothing I hate more than buying a sweater and after wearing it a couple times it is covered in little fuzz balls. Do you know what I am talking about? At first I thought it was because I was buying a low quality sweater, so I splurged on a couple nicer ones only to have the same problem once again. And then I discovered this amazing little trick to remove the fuzz balls and keep your sweaters looking neat and new.
Take a fine tooth comb and quickly brush it over the fuzzy areas about 10 times. It will remove the fuzz balls and smooth the fabric. Rocket science, right? Try it, love it and thank me later!

A Little Style... Online Sample Sales

I am guilty, guilty, guilty of loving online samples sales.  I am a serious deal hunter and I have found many a great deal on these sites.  So I thought I would share.  You can find what I have recently scored on online sample sales on my Style Blog.
A Little Great

I don't know how they do it, but it is like TJ Maxx on steroids.  They feature everything from home goods to baby clothes, beautiful things for you, and even for your man.

Personally, I super-love HauteLook.com and I shop it so very often. But there are several other options.

So how do you shop on these sites?  It can be a little confusing so please allow me to give you a few pointers.
1. Sign up.  You have to register to get the deals sent to you daily.  I don't usually like to sign up for things either, but in this case I make an exception.
2. Be patient.  To find the best deals you have to willing to check back often.  New sales are introduced daily.
3. Act fast.  In many cases the deals will be so good that you have to shop fast!  Sizes and styles go quickly sometimes.  When it comes to shopping on these sites you might not have the luxury of sleeping on it.
4. Have fun.  I have more fun shopping on these types of sites than... well... anywhere else.  I love the thrill of the hunt and an awesome bargain.
5. Denim sizing.  Shoes, tops and accessories are easy.  But be careful when it comes to jeans because they all fit differently.  However, items are almost always returnable.  My suggestions is to know what size you wear in the brand of jeans before you purchase.  On HauteLook they let you know which sales are upcoming.

Go forth and save!

A Little Style... Fight the Frump!

Alright, let's talk.  Have you ever seen your refection in the grocery store window and wondered who in the world?  Oh!  That's me!  I admit it has happened to me from time to time.  Its not easy to get dressed when there's no job I have to get to, I don't have any appointments today.  So why not hangout?  I mean, in my jammies?  All day.

By way of confession, there are times when I do hangout in my jammies.  Mostly those are times when my baby kept me awake too long or I am working on a particularly engrossing home decor project.  But most days I do drag myself (sometimes kicking and screaming) into my closet to get dressed.

Today I am going to share with you my three little tips for fighting the frump this Fall.

1. Have key pieces that you love and can't wait to wear.  (These adorable shoes would do the trick).
For me these are usually jeans.  I love jeans.  I don't think a girl can really have too many pairs of jeans.  In the past I would have recommend you splurge on a "premium" pair of jeans but lately I have noticed that affordable brands have really been stepping up the fit of their jeans.  I bought a pair at Target the other day for only $20 (they have long sizes now!) that I think I am really going to like.

A pair of cute-fitting jeans, an interesting tee and a jacket can really do wonders...

2. Emblellished Tees make you look accessorized without the effort!
This works especially well if you can get a little bit of sparkle near your face...

3. Rely on your boots.
Boot are key in Fall fashion.  They really can make such an impact.  If you are wearing a pair of cute boots your outfit can be quite plain and your boots pull it together and make it interesting.

I have these boots.  I featured them on my style blog recently and I have had two readers purchase them and they love them as much as I do.  And they are super duper affordable!
